Dr. Luz Yadira Herrera is a Los Angeles-based educator from Mexico. She is an Associate Professor of Teacher Education and Dual Language Learning at California State University, Dominguez Hills. She is co-author of Libros solidarios: Teaching Language and Building Community with Latine Children’s Literature in Spanish (Brookes Publishing) and Translanguaging Collections: Affirming Bilingual and Multilingual Readers (Penguin Random House) with Dr. Carla España.
Dr. Herrera has a B.A. in International Development Studies and Portuguese from UCLA, a Master’s in TESOL from Pace University–New York, and a Ph.D. in Urban Education from The Graduate Center, City University of New York (CUNY). Dr. Herrera’s teaching journey began with multilingual learners in an elementary English as a New Language setting in Harlem, New York.
